Description
By popular demand, the Gold Coast Amateur Beekeeping Society are holding another "Introduction to Beekeeping Course" to get you started with backyard honey bee keeping.
Suited to the absolute novice or the beginner in the first year of keeping honey bees. Applicable to all hive types and designs including Flow Hive.
(NOTE: If you have completed greater than one year / season with honey bees, this course may still be suitable for you because it is aimed at the beginner. Follow GCABS for intermediate level training courses which may also suit your needs and experience level.)
This course is 8 + hours, run over two consecutive half days (Saturday morning and Sunday morning)

Course ticket price includes:
- Copy of professional, industry standard beekeeping reference textbook
- Food and beverage.
- 8 - 10 hours hands-on training over two days.
- Loaned personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Meet real bees! Hands on in-hive experience and practical training.
- Optional participation in the GCABS mentoring program.
Due to practical considerations in the apiary, places in the class will be strictly limited.

Locations:
Day 1: 74 Billabirra Cres, 4211 (8.30am assemble for a 9am start)
Day 2: Private property in Southport QLD: actual address will be advised on day 1 (approx 9am - 1pm)
Receipts will be issued and further background information and reading material will be sent to attendees prior to the course start date.
What you need to know:
Please arrive from 8.30am for coffee, ready for a 9am start on Saturday. The course will present the theory and practical skills a beginning beekeeper needs to get started with a honey beehive. At the conclusion of the course beginners will have met several of the GCABS Club members who will assist with practical activities over the course and establish mentoring connections for new members. Participants will be able to Loan the necessary PPE for Day 2.
What to wear on day 2:
- Loose fitting long sleeved shirt and loose fitting full length trousers.
- Substantial closed-in shoes.
- Long socks that can be tucked over cuffs of trousers.
- PPE loaned by GCABS.
- Gloves (if desired) that cover the cuffs of shirt sleeves.
- Light colours are preferable
- Paper and pen: water bottle.
- If you have a severe allergy response to bee stings please bring your own epipen.
Basic morning tea / light lunch will be provided. If you need further nourishment bring it along and feel welcome to eat throughout the morning, as 4 hours is a long stretch. If you have food allergies that we need to know about please mention that at least one week before the class so that we can cater.

1.One course registration and payment is required per person.
2.The prescribed manual / text books can only be substituted in special circumstances.
3.Payments and registrations are required by the due date and cash payments or extra attendees or walk-ins on the day cannot be accommodated.
4.Cancellations will be processed if received more than 7 days from the course commencement. Refund (less processing fees and catering expense ) will be returned.
5.In the event of ticket holder illness / mishap preventing you from attending , the paid registration in course may be held over to the next class offered by GCABS but must be redeemed within 6 month
6.Access to post course support (mentors, club meeting, newsletter, phone support, education days) are only available to club members. Membership is strongly recommended.
