Tool Sharpening Basics: Knives and Scissors
Keep your tools sharp and ready to use! In this hands-on class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of sharpening a pair of scissors or a non-serrated knife using professional equipment, including the 10" Grizzly Wet Grinder & Tormek T-4 sharpening system. Whether it’s for cooking, crafting, or everyday use, this class will teach you how to restore a keen edge to your tools with confidence and precision.

This class is perfect for beginners looking to develop skills in sharpening tools at home while prioritizing safety. Please note: Advanced tools, chisels, or axes will not be covered in this session. Stay tuned for future classes focused on those items!
LMS Members who complete this course will be considered proficent and may use the Tormek or Grizzly grinding wheels during open shop hours.

LMS has a $10 no-show fee for LMS members who don't show up for the classes they sign up for. These fees will be charged to the card we have on file. The Grizzly T10010ANV 10″ Wet Grinder is a compact, water‑cooled bench grinder designed for sharpening and finishing cutting tools. It is built around a 10″, 220‑grit aluminum oxide grinding wheel that runs in a water bath to keep edges cool and prevent overheating, helping preserve tool temper and reduce wheel clogging. Opposite the grinding wheel is an 8″ leather stropping wheel for polishing and honing tools to a fine, razor‑sharp edge.
The Tormek T-4 Original is a compact quality machine that's perfect for home and hobby use, or professionals with limited space. Knives, scissors, lawnmower blades and chisels. Most edge tools you can think of can be made sharper than when they were new with Tormek's comprehensive jig system. The universal support provides precise repeatability, and you achieve razor sharpness with the leather honing wheel.
