Intro To Sustainable Art-Making Processes
Join us for an exciting in-person course at SILT! If you are passionate about art and the environment, this course is for you. Discover innovative and eco-friendly techniques to create stunning work. Learn from experienced artists who will guide you through sustainable art-making processes as you explore different approaches to low-impact methods. This hands-on course in our beautiful new Trowbridge studio will nurture your creativity whilst equipping you with ancient and contemporary skills. This is an opportunity to explore the fascinating world of sustainable art practice, including sourcing materials, extracting colour, mark making, textiles and working with light.
10 weekly sessions on Monday evenings, 6pm - 8.30pm

Monday 8th Jan - Foraging, plant ID & infusions
Monday 15th Jan - Cord making
Monday 22nd Jan - Extractions and modifying ink colour
Monday 29th Jan - Rainbows and colour wheels with botanical inks
Monday 5th Feb - Dying with basic mordants
Monday 19th Feb - Fabric dying
Monday 26th Feb - Mark making and cliche verres
Monday 4th March - Anthotypes and emulsions
Monday 11th March - Developing, toning and preservation
Monday 18th March - Weaving & wrapping with dyed textiles
Your tutors: Alison Ballance and Anna Chrystal Stephens are both artists who research sustainable processes within their practices. Alison works with drawing, watercolour, writing, textiles and performance. They are interested in process, dreams and radical landscapes. Anna works with sculpture, action and photography to explore ecology, living strategies and ancient processes like harvesting wild plants for use as food, material and medium.
