The culture of street photography has changed over the past few decades, from an art that thrived on stories told through a voyeuristic lens to a socially burgeoning genre centered around interaction and connection. In this three-part series, Photographer Derek Fahsbender opens the door to street photographer, from tips for beginners to more nuanced conversations about the philosophical side of the art. Together we will explore the various approaches, from gear and technique to the ever-changing face of today’s street photography landscape. As we close out this series, we take to the streets of the West Village to put what we’ve learned into practice. We will meet at Father Demo Square on Bleecker street and explore the surrounding area.
Photo gear will not be provided, but cameras are optional so feel free to join us for the vibes. Please arrive early, as there is no planned route and we will be leaving promptly at 4pm.
