About this Event
What You Will Learn
This is not just a "make and take" craft hour; this is a technical skills workshop.
We will be making simple geometric square designs, roughly 3.5" x 3.5". The designs are based off of traditional stained glass window boarders. You will be able to select the colors you wish to include in the window, and each design will have a space to mount a hanging ring.
- Precision Cutting: Learn the difference between glass cutters, and how to engage the carbide wheel for the perfect score.
- Breaking with Confidence: Understand how glass fissures work (the "path of least resistance") and how to use running pliers and grozing pliers to manipulate breaks without fear.
- The Foil Technique: Learn how to apply copper foil tape, ensuring proper adhesion and centering to create structural integrity.
- Soldering Science: You will learn to identify 60/40 Tin/Lead solder, understand its melting point (approx. 370 ˚F – 400 ˚F working range), and how to achieve a "smooth bead."
- Anchoring & Hanging: How to solder jump rings into a seam for maximum load-bearing strength.
- Chemical Finishing: The most skipped step—cleaning. Learn how to properly neutralize acidic flux residues to prevent corrosion, and keep your piece looking great for years.
