Intro to Plein Air in Watercolor

Tuesday, February 17, 2026

10:00am-12:30pm

Instructor: Natalie Brooks

Class Description: If you’ve ever been inspired by the beauty of nature, this class is for you! Local artist Natalie Brooks will guide you step by step in getting started with plein air in watercolor. First we’ll meet in the classroom to gather supplies, then we’ll take a little walk to explore our muse: the gardens! We’ll learn how to decide on a composition, what to prioritize “in the field,” and lots of skills to explore watercolor on the go! Then, we’ll head back to the classroom to put the finishing touches on our paintings!

There are so many ways to create nature-inspired art, and in this class, you’ll gain confidence by discovering what works best for you. You’ll have the opportunity to see several different plein air materials and set-ups, from pocket-sized nature notebooks to professional travel easels.

Please note: This class is accessible for all and will not require off-trail or long-distance walking. The outdoor portion of the class will last approximately 1-1.5hrs. In case of inclement weather, the class will be held indoors. Outdoor seating may be available but is not guaranteed; you are welcome to bring a camping chair or picnic blanket if you prefer not to stand during the outdoor portion.

All supplies are included in your session fee.

Registration includes admission to the beautiful gardens before or after class.

With over a decade of experience in watercolor, Natalie Brooks Dourte expresses her love of nature through painting. Born and raised in Florida, her imagination has been captivated by the coasts and the lush earth between, filling her with inspiration that pours out as she paints. She is delighted to share the joy of watercolor with her students. Natalie is a member of both the Florida Watercolor Society and Central Florida Watercolor Society, and graduated fellow of Arts Fellowship Orlando.

Participants must withdraw from classes at least 5 days prior to the start of class in order to receive a full refund or credit. If we must cancel a class, we will make every effort to inform you prior to the class time, and you will receive a full refund or credit.

Only those registered for the class will be permitted to participate. Childcare services are not provided.
