Whether you are a complete beginner or already have some experience, this introductory class is designed to give you a strong foundation in papermaking, building the basic understanding and skills you need to confidently continue working with paper.You will discover the different types of fibers used in papermaking, learn how to form sheets using a mould and deckle as well as a deckle box, and experiment with pigments to create rich and expressive paper colors. Along the way, you’ll play with inclusions, learning exactly what works best and how it can add texture and character to your paper. You will also explore creative applications of handmade paper in art, opening the door to endless creative possibilities.
These introductory classes are meant to give you the essential basics so you can engage more deeply with papermaking in the future—whether that means joining Grounded with a paper membership, returning during open studio hours, or continuing to experiment and refine your practice on your own.
