About this Event

Interested in learning about and connecting with our local wildlands? Join us for an Introduction to Nature Journaling! Let's take a walk through the beautiful local wilderness and enjoy the spring season, making thoughtful observations through a creative lens. Nature journaling is a wonderful tool to connect with yourself and the world around you while practicing creativity and creating a memento of your time outdoors.

Professional instructor Dori Dewberry will lead this series of art lessons in nature. We will be settling into a spot where the Orange Hills can be seen, and learn techniques for capturing their wild beauty with pencil, paint and paper. All supplies have been generously donated by Blick Art Materials, you need only bring something to sit on.

Materials provided include the following:

  • Watercolor Paper
  • Watercolor Pans / Pencils
  • Clipboard
  • Brushes
  • Water Jar

Please wear comfortable closed toed shoes, layers for changing temperatures, and sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses). Each person should bring 1 liter (½ gallon) of water, personal medications (epipen, inhaler, etc.) and snacks.

This activity is an easy walk of up to 1 mile. This is a dog friendly trail: dogs must be on leash, and you are responsible for your own safety and anyone you bring. Please don’t attend if you are feeling unwell; masks are always welcome. Photos and videos will be taken during the activity (let us know if you’d prefer not to be photographed). Open to ages 12 and up.

For this second session, the instruction focus will be on watercolor, but all materials will be available. The next session will be May 24. For more information, contact [email protected].

Parking is $5. Gather at the Peters Canyon North Trailhead (main entrance).

This event is hosted by Naturalist For You/Save Orange Hills and has been sponsored by BLICK Art Materials and Greenisms, LLC. This event is not affiliated with OC Parks.

No one turned away for lack of funds! Write to [email protected] for information.
