About this Event

Introduction to mime (4hr)

Overview:

A fun, practicable and accessible introduction to mime and physical storytelling, focusing on weight, resistance, fixed point, spatial awareness and intention. Participants learn how to create convincing objects and environments using precise physical choices.

Whether you're an improviser looking to enhance object work, a standup keen to strengthen act-outs, or an actor authenticity beyond text, this workshop offers clear usable tools.

Who is this for?

• Improvisers – developing clear object work and physical clarity in scenes.
• Stand-ups – strengthening act-outs without unnecessary physical clutter.
• Characters/Clowns – refining physical detail and introducing mime into their play. • Actors/performers- building embodied presence and clarity beyond dialogue.

What To Expect

• Making weight visible - so a mimed cup or suitcase genuinely exists.
• Fixed point and resistance - the foundations of believable object work. • Spatial memory - maintaining a consistent physical world.
• Clean beginnings and endings of action.
• Tension and economy of movement.
• Simple silent scenes with clear physical storytelling.

Outcome

You will leave able to:

• Handle invisible objects convincingly.
• Create clear physical environments on stage.
• Remove vague or approximate movement
• Slow down without losing energy and clarity
• Apply core mime principals such as tension, isolation and Tok.
