Welcome to the world of marine diesel engines! Join us to build confidence on the water and save money by learning how to repair and maintain your own diesel engine. This two-day course is designed to benefit mariners who operate vessels equipped with diesel engine(s). The course will take place over a weekend using both lecture and hands-on experience to teach the basics components, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of a diesel engine. The course will increase knowledge in the basic understanding of diesel engine components, what tools to have onboard, when to pay for a professional mechanic, and things to look out for to prevent further problems. Students have the opportunity to completely take apart and then reassemble real engines to make the transition from theoretical to practical understanding.
This course is taught by Meredith Anderson, a USCG-licensed marine engineer, advanced diesel instructor at Seattle Maritime Academy, and regular columnist for 48° North magazine. Her experience as a mechanic is varied and extensive. She has developed a following for her ability to fix her clients’ engines while also helping them understand what she’s doing and why.
