About this Event
Welcome to Intro to Hand Dancing! Join us for a fun-filled evening of learning the basics of DCs very own Hand Dance . Hand dancing, originating in the Black community of Washington, D.C., in the mid-20th century. Characterized by its smooth footwork, fluid movements, and emphasis on hand connections between partners, hand dancing is both a fun and social activity, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Washington, D.C.
Our experienced instructor Jerry Whitfield will guide you through the steps and techniques of hand dancing, a unique style that combines elements of swing, jazz, and blues. You'll have the opportunity to practice with other participants and show off your new moves on the dance floor.
Come solo or bring a friend - either way, you're sure to have a blast at Legacy DC. Don't miss out on this chance to learn something new and meet fellow dance enthusiasts. See you there!
