Join us for a hands-on Intro to Canva workshop at BronxNet Community Television, where you’ll learn how to design professional-quality visuals to promote your brand, business, or creative projects.
In this small-group session, you’ll be guided step-by-step through Canva’s tools and features, gaining the confidence to create content that reflects your voice and vision.
Whether you're a content creator, entrepreneur, or community storyteller, this class will help you bring your ideas to life—visually.
By the end of this session, you will:
- Understand the Canva interface and essential tools
- Create a branded social media post
- Design a simple flyer or promotional graphic
- Learn how to choose fonts, colors, and layouts that reflect your brand
- Download and share your designs for real-world use
No prior design experience is required—just bring your creativity and a willingness to learn.

2-Hour Class Breakdown
5:30 – 5:40 PM | Welcome & Introductions
- Brief overview of BronxNet and the session goals
- Participant introductions (name + what they want to promote)
5:40 – 6:00 PM | Canva Basics
- Navigating the dashboard
- Understanding templates vs. custom designs
- Key tools: text, elements, uploads, and layouts
6:00 – 6:30 PM | Design Foundations
- Choosing the right template for your purpose
- Basic branding: colors, fonts, and consistency
- What makes a design “pop” (spacing, hierarchy, clarity)
6:30 – 7:10 PM | Hands-On Creation
Participants create:
- 1 social media post (Instagram or flyer format)
- Real-time support and feedback
- Light coaching on messaging and visuals
7:10 – 7:25 PM | Exporting & Sharing
- Downloading designs (PNG, PDF, etc.) (You won't be downloading your design in this class, but we will speak about how you will do it from your own home computer).
- Posting to social media
- Tips for consistency across platforms
7:25 – 7:30 PM | Wrap-Up
- Final reflections
- Q&A
Instructor Bio:
The instructor for this class is Timothy Coleman, the Director of Education for BronxNet. Timothy is a podcast host, a television show host, a Grammy-nominated songwriter, and a Broadway performer. He is a member of SAG/AFTRA and Actors' Equity Association.
