About this Event
A Dinner and Heritage Potluck for Special Operations Forces Spouses
Special Operations Forces spouses are invited to join The Station Foundation for a Roots & Routes gathering centered on nourishment, connection, and the stories we carry through food. In military life, we are shaped not only by where we come from, but by the places we are sent. Recipes become markers of both our roots and our routes.
Recipes are more than instructions; they hold memory, culture, care, and moments of connection shaped by seasons of distance, transition, reinvention, and belonging.
This shared meal is designed to slow us down and gather us intentionally around the table. Participants are invited to bring a dish that represents either:
• A family tradition or cultural recipe from your roots
• A dish connected to a duty station that shaped you
• A meal that sustained you during deployment or reintegration
• Something adapted over time as military life reshaped your traditions
Alongside the meal, we will exchange recipes and the stories behind them, allowing each dish to become a doorway into shared experience.
This gathering is not about presentation or perfection. It is about presence. Food becomes the invitation to listen, to be known, and to connect without needing to explain everything. In sharing what has fed us - physically and emotionally - we honor both the life we came from and the life that shaped us.
This Roots & Routes experience reflects a core program principle: community is built through simple, repeated gestures of care. Sharing a meal and a story reminds us that nourishment is both physical and emotional.
“A recipe is a memory that can be tasted - and a journey that can be shared.”
