We are pleased to offer the second in a series of team-teach workshops in Santa Fe NM : Dates: September 4-5-6, 2026
INTERWOVEN :
Mixed Media Connections, Material / Scale / Surface
This 3 day workshop is for artists with some prior arts practice who are ready to work at a larger scale toward a deeper level of integration of mixed media materials and execution. However, all levels are welcome.
Collectively led by Julie Schumer, Carl Heyward, and Akiko Suzuki, the workshop explores the intersection of paint, collage, and fiber, with a focus on translating ideas from smaller works onto larger, more complex surfaces.
Through demonstrations, shared dialogue, and substantial studio time, participants will investigate how disparate materials and processes can work together as a cohesive visual language. Emphasis is placed on material contrast, compositional clarity, and decision-making as work progresses.
Participants will work on canvas, wooden panels, or paper and explore strategies for scale, structure, editing, and resolution. Instruction includes intuitive mark making, compositional and concept, and the integration of fiber (hand and machine sewing) as both structural and expressive tools.
This workshop is ideal for artists ready to move beyond experimentation toward more intentional, resolved work.
Tuition:
$2500, basic materials provided, materials list to follow after workshop registration
Tuition includes daily lunch, coffee, tea, water and healthy snacks to keep you fueled and focused.
