🌸 International Women’s Day & Free Community Movie Screening – Just a Farmer
Collie proudly invites the community to a special International Women’s Day celebration, featuring a community breakfast and a free screening of the nationally recognised documentary Just a Farmer. This event brings together local industry, education providers, community organisations, students, and residents to celebrate women’s leadership, resilience, and workforce participation during times of change.
🎬 About Just a Farmer
Just a Farmer is more than a documentary — it’s a conversation starter. Focused on mental health, identity, resilience, and lived experience, the film offers insights into the personal and community impacts of change. The screening will be accompanied by a keynote from Lelia McDougall, creator of Just a Farmer, Beyond Blue Rural Ambassador, and 2026 Victorian Australian of the Year nominee. Lelia’s story of strength and advocacy resonates far beyond farming, connecting with individuals, families, and communities navigating transformation.
As Collie moves through its Just Transition toward a net-zero future, this event recognises that economic change is not just about new energy projects — it’s about people, households, and community confidence. Supporting women, including those in non-traditional industries, partners of transitioning workers, and women returning to the workforce, is critical to regional resilience and economic participation.
👩‍💼 Celebrating Local Women
The program will feature local women across mining, health, sport, education, business, and community leadership, highlighting diverse career pathways and reinforcing the important role women play in shaping Collie’s workforce.
🎓 Youth Engagement
Students from Collie Senior High School will participate, gaining direct exposure to women working across both established and emerging industries, including clean energy, advanced manufacturing, health, education, and entrepreneurship. This initiative supports career awareness and confidence for young people considering local opportunities.

The event will explore values closely aligned with International Women’s Day:
