I wasn't going to plan an International Women's Day event this year. I am going to someone else's event on the 7th and I have a good friend's party to go to on 8th, so I thought I would keep things quiet for some of the day.Then the big orange man happened and, well, the world feels a bit scary right now, especially for those of us that are not white (American) men, so I decided that I would put on an event, an event that will make us feel connected.
Not just that, I want it to be an event where we can come together, talk, share, and be reminded that we are stronger together.
I am still making arrangements but there will be lunch and soft drinks provided. There will be confidence boosting activities. There will be at least one speaker. There will be conversation starters. And there will be more. I will add it as I confirm things but I wanted to set this up so people could save the date.
We will be in the Cranbury Room at The Hilt Community Centre in Chandler's Ford. It's not a big room because I want to cap numbers; I could have hired one of the bigger rooms and attempted to fill it, but, because I want this to be an event where people get a chance to talk to everybody (if they want to), where people can feel connected, I didn't want there to be too many people and for them to feel overwhelmed. So there really is only a limited amount of tickets available for this.
This event is aimed at women and older girls, and in that, I include trans women and non-binary folx. I can't predict what conversations will be had so I would recommend you use discretion as to whether you think your child is ready to hear conversations that may be more grown up.
The lunch will be buffet style; please do let me know any intolerances you have. Soft drinks will be available, probably in cans, so that I can recycle them easily. Please do let me know if you have any allergies or intolerances.
Ticket price is £26, which includes lunch, drinks, activities, speaker, booking fee, and profits will be going to Yellow Door in Southampton. I know they are a wonderful charity, that helps so many people, and it felt like the right charity to support with an event that will empower women.
Doors will be open from 12.45pm and we will get started at 1pm. We will wind down around 3pm, with the event closing at 3.15pm.
The Hilt is a wheelchair accessible venue. The front doors are automated and there will be someone who can open the doors to our room. There is a disabled toilet, but not a Changing Places one. Sadly, Chandler's Ford is not great for public transport but there is plenty of parking on site and on the roads nearby. The closest train station is Chandler's Ford, which I have been told is step free and has accessible toilets; that's five minutes away in a car/taxi. I may be able to arrange a lift from the station if there's a need; please let me know. Eastleigh, Southampton Airport Parkway, and Winchester stations are all around 20 to 25 minutes away, and around £25 in taxi fare, though, it's much cheaper if you share. Please do let me know if you are planning to come by public transport, as I may be able to arrange for you to meet someone who is travelling the same way and you can share costs.
