Come celebrate the annual international uilleann piping day at the Focal Point. This concert features Nicolas Brown, an internationally recognized uilleann piper who has performed, taught workshops, given lectures, and played at venues and festivals throughout Canada, the United States, and Ireland. Nicolas Brown is “an excellent piper” and one of a “who’s who of Irish music scholarship” (The Irish Echo). Nicolas released "Good Enough Music For Them Who Love It", a solo album on an antique set of Irish pipes in 2020, and a duet album on a set of replica historic low-pitched union pipes in 2016.
The concert will open with a set from Mike Mullins and students from St. Louis Irish Arts
At 7pm, one hour before the concert there will be a special Uilleann Piping "Petting Zoo", where attendees can see the uilleann pipes up close and try out a "practice set". This is available to all concert ticket holders.
International Uilleann Piping Day is a global celebration of the unique Irish pipes or ‘uilleann pipes’, which takes place annually on the first Saturday in November, and is a co-ordinated day of piping activities and events organised by Na Píobairí Uillean.
