The Department of Chemistry, School of Basic Sciences, SRM University Sikkim, will be organizing a One Day International Symposium on “Recent Trends in Biological Chemistry” on 15th April 2026 at Room 403, Science Block, SRM University Sikkim, starting at 9:30 AM. The symposium aims to bring together researchers, academicians, and students to discuss recent scientific developments and interdisciplinary research in the field of biological chemistry.The event will feature a Keynote Lecture by Prof. Antony Fairbanks from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, who is internationally recognized for his contributions to chemical biology and glycoscience. The Plenary Lecture will be delivered by Dr. Sudarshan Tamang from Sikkim University, who will share his research perspectives in the area of biological and chemical sciences.
In addition to these distinguished speakers, the symposium will include invited talks by eminent academicians, namely Dr. Mandar Sengupta, Dr. Avneesh Kumar, Dr. Anup Gurung, Dr. Govind P. Singh, Dr. Chelli Sai Manohar, and Dr. Partha Pratim Bag. The talks will highlight current advances in biological chemistry, biomolecular interactions, medicinal chemistry, and emerging interdisciplinary research areas.
This academic event is intended to create a platform for scientific interaction, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among researchers and students interested in the rapidly evolving field of biological chemistry.
On this occasion, the Department of Chemistry is also pleased to announce the launch of a new undergraduate programme, B.Sc. in Biochemistry, which will be offered from the current academic year onwards. The programme aims to equip students with strong foundational knowledge in biochemistry, molecular biology, analytical techniques, and biomedical sciences, preparing them for careers in research, healthcare, biotechnology, and related industries.
Through initiatives such as this symposium and the introduction of new academic programmes, the Department of Chemistry continues to promote high-quality education, research, and innovation in the interdisciplinary domain of chemical and biological sciences.
