International Jazz Day 2026: Celebrate the Roots of Jazz with What The Jazz

This International Jazz Day (30 April), experience jazz music and dance in four different ways!
About this Event

This April 30th, celebrate UNESCO International Jazz Day (AND International Dance Day on April 29th) by revisiting the roots of jazz when it was both the popular music and dance music of the day.

Join us at the Jazz Loft (Blu Jaz) for a taste of four different ways to experience the rhythms, groove and language of jazz. The night will be led by seasoned educators - dancer-vocalist Sinclair Ang (Jazz Inc), tap dancer Alicia and jazz pianist Amanda Lee. This event is generously supported by Eden Resources.

850-930pm - Song Study by Amanda Lee

930-1030pm - Jazz Jam

Tickets sold on Eventbrite ($25 + platform fee). Limited tickets available at the door ($32).

Musicians can join the jam for free, subject to spaces. A ticket is required to attend the other activities.

730-810pm: Lindy Hop Taster by Jazz Inc

Communicate with your partner without words as you learn the basics of this partner dance and groove to the infectious groove of swing music!

810-850pm: Tap Dance Taster by Alicia Loo

Discover how your feet can bring rhythm to life with basic steps, musicality, and groove! Wear leather soled shoes/ tap dance shoes, if you have!

850-930pm: Song Study by Amanda Lee

Deep dive and learn different aspects of a classic jazz standard. Bring along an instrument, if you want!

930-1030pm: Open Jazz Jam

Listen and observe a live jam in action! Musicians / tappers are welcome to join the jam with the house band and fellow jammers.
