On 28 August 2025, as part of the Singapore Convention Week 2025, the International and Comparative Law Research Center will host a panel discussion entitled “International Dispute Settlement: Current Trends – Where Next?”. The Asian Academy of International Law is the Information & Media Partner of the event.Among the speakers:
- Roman Kolodkin, Judge of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, Advisor on Public International Law, the International and Comparative Law Research Center
- Alina Miron, Professor at the University of Angers (France), Partner at Far Avocats,
- Francis Xavier, SC, Regional Head of Disputes Group, Rajah & Tann Singapore LLP
- Ong Chin Heng, Senior State Counsel & Senior Director, International Affairs Division of the Attorney-General’s Chambers of Singapore
The event will be held in Singapore, without online streaming.
The panel discussion will explore current and emerging trends, including possible reforms, across various forms of international dispute resolution in inter-State, investor-State, and commercial domains.
Experts will reflect on developments with respect to the existing mechanisms, such as the growing role of advisory opinions of international courts and tribunals, greater State control and the potential introduction of appellate review in investor-State dispute settlement, third-party funding in commercial and investment arbitration, and common digitalization and the expanding use of artificial intelligence. The discussion will also touch on the increasing role of alternative dispute resolution tools and cross-cutting procedural challenges.
By bringing together perspectives from different domains, the panel discussion aims to identify shared trends and distinct trajectories in international dispute settlement frameworks, best practices, and possible lessons to be learned, along with expected ways forward on matters of concern.
