Bruce Spizer will give an audio/video presentation on A Hard Day’s Night at the Second Annual International Beatles Symposium at Liverpool Hope University from 2:45 to 3:45 PM.Bruce will cover how rock ’n’ roll was introduced to the movies with clips from the key films that pre-dated A Hard Day’s Night such Blackboard Jungle, Rock Around The Clock, The Girl Can’t Help It, Elvis’ King Creole and It’s Trad, Dad (Dick Lester’s directorial debut of a feature-length film from 1962). The brief clips from the latter film demonstrate the techniques used by Lester in his first film that carried over to A Hard Day’s Night. It will then move on to John explaining in mid-1963 why the Beatles had turned down offers to appear in films, how those in England and America learned about the Beatles film, and how it was received.
In 2009, Liverpool Hope University started to offer a Master's degree in "The Beatles, Popular Music and Society". The program focuses on the political, social, and cultural aspects related to the Beatles and their music.
