This intermediate wheel throwing class focuses on creating bottleneck forms, emphasizing control, precision, and refined shaping on the wheel. Students will work on throwing taller cylinders and learning how to successfully collar and narrow the neck without collapsing the form.
Instruction will cover:
Pulling even, consistent walls for height
Collar techniques for narrow openings
Throwing a chuck for trimming
Managing tension, timing, and moisture
Refining proportions and silhouette
Common troubleshooting for bottleneck forms
Glazing a bottleneck form
This class is designed for students who are comfortable centering and pulling basic cylinders and are ready to push their skills further. Pieces will be ready for trimming and glazing according to studio firing schedules.
All tools and materials are provided.
