About this Event
Welcome to the **Intermediate Self-Defense** workshop with The Open Space Martial Arts! Join us on **Sunday, April 13th** at 3:00PM for a challenging, fun, and informative session at our studio.
Building a strong foundation is essential for self-defense. But if you stop at the basics, you’ll only be able to handle a basic-level violent threat. What then? What is your safety, security, and well-being worth?
During this event, you will discover techniques beyond the intro level to defend yourself in the “what if” scenarios that the basics don’t cover. Our experienced instructors will guide you through practical exercises and simulations to help take your self-defense skills to the next level!
We will cover topics including:
• Attacks from behind
• Fighting while seated
• Fighting from the ground
• Fighting on your back
• Fighting while face-down
And, as always,
• How to get away
• What to do AFTER a violent encounter.
You don’t get to choose when you’ll need to fight, and sometimes the deck is stacked against you. We’ll give you the tools to stack it back in your favor again!
Prepared! Not scared!
This seminar assumes that you already have some experience with self-defense training.
We will, by definition, be dealing with the unpleasant topics of what human beings sometimes try to do to each other. Content warnings include: Physical harm, threat of physical harm, language, physical contact with another person, loud noises, shouting, possible references to SA and DV, possible references to weaponry including firearms and knives.
Ages 13+ (minors will need a parent or legal guardian present to sign paperwork, or bring proof of emancipation).
Students must be able to get up off the ground with minimal assistance.
Students will need to wear clean clothes like they might be wearing on an average day, and you will want to bring a water bottle!
