Intermediate Kumihimo, Level 1:Half-Round Braid – Learn a new 8-warp structure — the Half-Round Braid (Japanese name: Kara Yatsu) is a mostly flat braid with a whole different look than the original round, 8-warp braid.
All Intermediate classes will include warp materials (satin cord, bead cord, or Asian knotting cord, depending on class), end caps, and clasps to complete a bracelet; beaded Kumihimo classes will include beads; and instruction handouts. How to detect and correct errors in your work will be covered. Students will be expected to bring the kit materials they received in the Intro class (foam disk, bobbins, counter-weight, and measuring tape) to all Intermediate classes (a few extra sets will be available to lend for use during class for those who forgot to bring theirs; or for purchase by those who don’t have their own kit), AND should have either taken the Intro class, OR have previous experience.

A Fox Valley resident for nearly 30 years, Erin Connolly is an experienced artist and instructor, having previously taught classes at a national crafting retailer, along with managing the education program. She is currently teaching at several art education facilities across the region. Erin is skilled in general jewelry making, polymer clay, Kumihimo (Japanese braiding), wire weaving, glass mosaics, and stained glass, and is currently working on making home décor items from cement.
Erin’s focus at the Trout Museum of Art is to introduce an art form to her students, providing them with the skills that she uses herself, as well as sharing with them approaches that are used by other artists. Erin strives to give her students the tools to be able to continue on their own – but most of all, she wants all of her students to have fun!
