Level up your dance while having a blast! On Friday January 9 we’re holding a workshop for intermediate and advanced dancers. It’s a 2nd Friday, so we're in our usual time slot at a DIFFERENT VENUE.REGISTRATION REQUIRED! See below.
We'll do complex dances, learn some advanced moves and concepts, and play contra games. We're changing the format to have more dancing. The first hour will be a workshop. The last two hours will be regular dances and contra games!
Topics this time will include:
- Momentum exchanges and momentum management in, e.g., allemandes, courtesy turns, roll-aways, balances, butterfly whirls, circles, and the swing-circle-swing idiom.
Other possible topics (message Dancer Joe with votes/suggestions):
- Swing dynamics and stability, variations, and styling
- Dance and body flow
- Twirls, pushbacks, and other styling
- Nonverbal communication with your partner
- Contra corners, butterfly whirls, all the different heys
- Swinging in the other role (REALLY improves your preferred-role dancing!)
- Modifying the dance on the fly
- Topics you suggest (message Dancer Joe)
It's all low stakes and high fun!

We're hosting this workshop and dance at our home (1425 Twin Oaks Circle, Oviedo, FL), NOT our regular venue. Joe Harrington will call, DJ, and lead the workshop.

Admission is $10, which supports live music at the regular dances. Students and out-of-work dance free.
We can offer hospitality to a few dancers coming from afar. Message Dancer Joe.
It's open to dancers who can dance basic contra confidently. You should be able to dance through to the end of our regular dances and do a chain with a courtesy turn, a hey, and a California twirl, all while arriving at the next move on time.
