Tea
Words steeped with emotion flow out of the mouth of Brooklyn born poet, fondly known as Tea, hailing from BedStuy. Her intentions are to open your mind by taking small moments in time inviting us to see them in a more robust and meaningful way. Tea began writing poetry to make sense of her world and expand not only her perspective, but that of others. Maya Angelou and Toni Morrison are just a couple of her literary influences. She also finds inspiration spending time out in Nature and finds joy in delving deeper into the mysteries of physics. Performing barefoot she remains grounded and present as she performs her art.
Travis Montez
Juvenile rights attorney/poet Travis Montez, of Bay Ridge, is the author of nine collections of poetry. His latest work, Peaches Honey Whiskey, is available now. He also hosts the Objects In This Rearview podcast, available on all platforms.
Izzie Zuniga
Izzie Zuniga is a Park Slope-based poet who writes narrative works inspired by her sense of belonging and non-belonging. This is her third feature with Inspired Word and second Poetry Hour feature. She will begin studying poetry as a Creative Writing MFA candidate at Columbia University this fall. Originally from Santa Fe, New Mexico, Izzie has made New York her home over the last ten years and has a sizable collection of street-salvaged furniture to prove it.
Allie Iliana Herrera
Allie Iliana Herrera is a poet, writer, and creative based in Bushwick, Brooklyn. She weaves various influences from her life into her writing process including family, culture, love, relationships, nature, and the human experience. Her upcoming book, For the Love of Water: a blend of poetry and prose, is scheduled for release in June and showcases her exploration through enjambment and movement on the page. You can find a copy wherever books are sold. Allie is usually at a local cafe in her neighborhood, walking her dogs in Forest Park with her family in Queens, or performing at various open mic events across the city such as Se Buscan Poetas at The Bowery Poetry Club, Macha Poetry at Macha Studio, and Open Book at Fiction Bar.
Calah Kelly
Calah Kelly is a spoken word poet who describes herslef as a "true Bed Stuy, Brooklyn bred hustler." Heavily influenced by Maya Angelou, Calah started writing poetry in 5th grade - with the first poem being “don’t judge a book by its cover." She mostly speaks about her past traumas and heartbreaks, and says: "I don’t usually rhyme, but overall I love to tell a good story."
