Contemplating pivotal work around oppression/supremacy culture as a community and aiding accountability
About this Event

Join us for our virtual, regularly occurring discussion group, inspired by Robert Livingston's The Conversation: How Seeking and Speaking Truth About Racism Can Readily Transform Individuals and Organizations. This book discusses systems of oppression, specifically racism, and advocates for more informed dialog around the topic, as individual activists and large organizations are the ones most likely to change our culture (according to the author).

Each month for group, we will contemplate a pivotal piece of literature, research, question posed by Livingston, and/or cultural phenomenon with discussion to better understand interlocking systems of oppression; ideas for remedial work at the personal, relational, and/or community level; and accountability by peers. The material considered will be chosen by the facilitator or group member, 3-4 weeks in advance of our meeting.

Systems of oppression, including racism, inform our culture as well as the work specific to the hosting organization, in accessibility, social determinants of health, how identities are constructed culturally and intersect, capitailstic ideas of wellness, our coercive vs consensual culture, trauma informed practice, and a committment to liberatory/transformative praxis.

The size of our group is limited. You do need to have read or considered the material prior to group to attend (otherwise, group is spent catching those up to the content rather than analyzing the content). There is a small fee to attend for the honoring of the host's time and the ticket holder's committment to their spot. If you wish to attend but cannot pay or wish to have the fee waived, please contact the host; this is encourange for folks with disability and/or QTBIPOC.

Please note that attendees are required to have their cameras on. "Doors" close 5 min after the start of the event.
