About this Event
Located inside the oldest surviving mansion on Fifth Avenue, one historic members-only club in New York City has brought together artists and art enthusiasts for over 150 years, including the likes of Louis Comfort Tiffany, Stanford White, and even Winston Churchill. Now's your chance to explore the home that helped give rise to American artistry, and cultivated some of the most important artists the world has ever seen.
Join New York Adventure Club for a rare insider's tour of the Salmagundi Club — one of America's oldest art organizations — and its landmark brownstone in Greenwich Village.
Led by a club member, our unique experience inside this one-of-a-kind structure will include:
- An overview of the Salmagundi Club, from its origins as a small sketch class in 1871 to its present-day status as a premier center for the resurgence of representational art in America
- A rare multi-floor exploration through the 1853 clubhouse, which showcases what it was like to live in a Fifth Avenue mansion at the start of the Gilded Age
- A look inside historic rooms — including spaces not open to the public — such as the 1917 library, the 1853 double parlors, a unique domed staircase, and the family bedroom levels
- A close look at some of the club's permanent collection of over 1,500 works of art, including its renown hand-painted mugs and Tiffany stained glass windows
- An opportunity after the tour to enjoy the club's current art exhibition
The tour will conclude with a little complimentary wine and a lot of socializing at the usual member's-only Wiggins Bar, the club's historic bar and restaurant, where guests can stay and purchase food and drinks!
