About this Event
Program Overview
Curious about bees or what it takes to keep a hive?
Inside the Hive: Beekeeping & Beeswax Candle Workshop is a hands-on, educational experience that blends an introduction to local beekeeping with beeswax-based craft.
The session begins with an accessible overview of honeybee life and hive management across the seasons on the South Coast. Participants will learn about bee behavior, pollination, honey production, and what goes into maintaining a healthy hive. This portion is conversational and informative, with time for questions and discussion.
Following the talk, participants will move into hands-on beeswax work. Using locally sourced materials, you’ll create rolled beeswax candles and explore simple wax-based projects such as bee wraps.
The experience concludes with a tasting of local honey.
Led by David and Gina of Studio Big Rock, who have been keeping bees locally for over 20 years, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to learn directly from experienced beekeepers while working with high-quality, small-batch materials.
Ideal for curious learners, gardeners, sustainability enthusiasts, and anyone interested in beekeeping or natural materials.
No prior experience is required.
