Visitors will learn about biotechnology, have hands-on experience extracting DNA from plant tissue, and learn about Okanagan Specialty Fruits (OSF) products, a leader in biotechnology and developer of non-browning apples.
Okanagan Specialty Fruits Inc. (OSF) is a vertically integrated company that holds the patent for the world’s first non-browning apple varieties, developed using cutting-edge biotechnology. The concept of the non-browning apple has been fully proven at OSF and successfully implemented through the commercialization of several Arctic® apple varieties, including Arctic Golden, Arctic Granny, Arctic Fuji, and Arctic Gala. Arctic apple varieties have the same nutritional composition as their parental varieties (Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, and Fuji) and have been declared safe for food use by the FDA and Health Canada. OSF’s research and development program spans over two decades, with its research laboratory (OSF-Lab) located at Innovation Place in Saskatoon, near the University of Saskatchewan. OSF-Lab is the origin of all Arctic apple varieties developed by the company. It continues to work on developing fruit varieties with novel traits related to nutritional enhancements, resistance to abiotic stress, and disease resistance.
Visitors will be responsible for their own parking on the premises. Please follow guidelines set by Innovation Saskatchwan

OSF staff will guide visitors onsite upon arrival. Please come to the lobby at the main entrance (south door) of the LFK building (410 Downey Road) and wait for your tour to begin.
No protective gear is required. Visitors are advised not to touch anything in the lab during the tour unless otherwise instructed.
Tours are free and open to all age groups interested in learning about biotechnology and biotech food products.
