27 September–8 December 2024
Opening Friday 27 September 6-11pm
Majd Abdel Hamid’s (Palestine, based in Beirut) artistic practice is rooted in the slow repetitive and performative gesture of embroidery and stitching, as a counterbalance to high-speed digital image production. Self-taught in traditional embroidery, Hamid’s works are the result of careful crafting, conceived as ‘sculptures in time’ rather than demonstrations of virtuosic skill.
Melanie Kitti’s (Sweden, based in Malmö and Copenhagen) work embraces both visual arts and writing. Her interest in fresco painting brings together the history of painting, sculpture and architecture in an exploration that dissolves the boundaries between applied and fine arts. Among the many layers of paint, limestone and plaster, an excavation of deeply personal events intertwined with our present times emerges.
