Velvet Lotus Tattoo is teaming up with Access 2 Independence for the 3nd Annual Ink for Independence flash tattoo event! Come get some new ink while supporting Access 2 Independence’s mission of empowering disabled individuals to achieve greater independence!Velvet Lotus Tattoo’s artists will be creating an assortment of disability and non-disability related designs for this event. Individuals will be able to select their design from the artists’ pre-made flash sheets. Design sneak peeks will be posted on the event discussion page in the days leading up to the event, with all flash sheet tattoo options being posted by Friday May 15th.
Event Information:
♿ Where: Velvet Lotus Tattoo, 405 Highway 1 West, Iowa City, IA
♿ When: Saturday May 16th, 2026 from 11:00 AM until all tattoo slots have been filled (line to secure tattoo time slots will open at 10:00 AM)
♿ **IMPORTANT INFORMATION**: A2I staff will be on-site from 10am to 1pm. When you arrive, please visit the tent outside the shop to speak with staff before taking your place in line. This event is first come first served, and spots will fill up quickly. Once all time slots have been filled, no more tattoos will be offered. Please note that you will not be assigned a time slot until AFTER having a consultation with shop staff about your tattoo. Once shop staff assign you a time slot you are welcome to either wait on-site until it's your turn or leave and return at your assigned time.
♿ Cost: Tattoos will require a donation starting at $80 and up depending on the design selected, use of color, etc.
♿ Payment: Cash is preferred but cards will be accepted
♿ Tattoo Limitations & Requirements: Tattoos will be placed on arms and legs only. There may be an extra charge to add color to your tattoo. All individuals receiving a tattoo must be 18 or older.
♿ Proceeds: A portion of every donation will go to support Access 2 Independence services. (Artist tips will still go to your tattoo artist)

About Access 2 Independence:
Access 2 Independence is a Center for Independent Living (CIL) serving people with disabilities across Eastern Iowa. We act as an advocacy and service provision agency for Iowans across the disability spectrum. Our organization is run BY disabled people, FOR disabled people. A2I originated in 1976 out of the Independent Living and Disability Rights movements of the 60s and 70s, and we are one of six CILs serving the state of Iowa. Our organization seeks to empower disabled people to become self-advocates and assist them with obtaining the tools necessary to achieve their goals and lead self-directed lives. We directly assist consumers with navigating complex governmental infrastructure, aid them in developing independent living skills, and connect them to the resources and services needed to fully participate in our communities. Our staff is made up of at least 50% disability-identified people at all times. This allows us to draw on our own lived experiences with disability and provide peer-to-peer services to our consumers. All of our services are always 100% free to anyone who self-identifies as having a significant disability, ensuring no one is barred from receiving support due to financial limitations.
