This session is open to laypeople and clergy, mental health professionals, social justice advocates, NGO workers, and others who would like to explore becoming a trauma healing facilitator so that they can provide basic care for those wounded by trauma or loss and optionally train others to do so. Necessary qualifications:Healing the Wounds of Military Trauma (HWMT) was written in response to requests from Christian veterans and military ministry staff working with active-duty military men and women, veterans and their families. It uses a blend of biblical truths and biblically sound mental health principles to help participants explore key topics especially relevant to people with military experiences. Those topics include: heart wounds and how they heal, moral injury, coming home, needs of military families and children, sexual trauma in the military, and others. HWMT is directly adapted from Healing the Wounds of Trauma: How the Church Can Help, used since 2002 by people speaking 200+ languages in 130 countries around the world.

In this Initial Equipping Session, trained facilitators (including veterans) will lead participants through key lessons about suffering, grieving, healing, forgiving and being forgiven, helping others and moving forward with meaning, hope and the wholeness that God offers. Using the proven Trauma Healing Institute small group model that is holistic and participatory, facilitators guide participants to consider experiences of loss, war, moral injury, or other challenges of military life. They then learn the program model, practice facilitation skills, and develop plans for using what they have learned in their particular context, church, or community.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND?

This session welcomes active-duty military men and women, veterans and spouses as well as military ministry staff, church workers, counselors, and others who are concerned with the care of military families.
