Otaku Bop 1: A celebration of Anime & Video Game MusicAnime & video game culture has been exploding all over the world in recent years! Otaku Bop is a celebration of the music from our favourite games and shows, featuring some of the best Jazz musicians in the city!
Otaku Bop 1 will feature performances by:
Ghibli Jazz Orchestra: An 18 person big band under the direction of Isabel Leong, comprised of musicians who share a love of Studio Ghibli films, video games, and anime. Their repertoire consists of compositions by Joe Hisaishi featured in Studio Ghibli films and various other media, with several arranged by members of the band. Their last two shows at the Pearl sold out in record time.
missingNO: Heavily jazz and prog-rock influenced group covering all your favourite (and our favourite) video game tunes. From classic arcade to modern console/PC gaming and everything in between with a funky rhythm section and powerful five-piece horn section. Enjoy such classics as "Frog's Theme" from legendary game Chrono Trigger or even the bluesy themes from the SNES cult classic, Plok! missingNo. Will satisfy all your video game music needs and more!. Their last show at Tyrant Studios packed the place.
The Cowboy Bebop Bebop Band: Led by Steven Zhu, this 7 person group returns for their biggest show yet, featuring some of the hottest young Jazz musicians in Vancouver playing the music from your favourite anime ever. Their most recent show was at the Fox Cabaret, which was sold out weeks before the show.
