The Kent County Council funded IPC Champion Programme to support and train health and social care staff to prevent the spread of infection
About this Event

This training introduces the role of an IPC Champion and aims to build confidence in infection prevention and control across care settings.

Participants will explore:

  • How infections spread and how to break the chain of infection
  • Standard precautions including hand hygiene, PPE, environmental cleaning, waste, and laundry management
  • How to recognise symptoms of infection and respond safely and appropriately
  • The importance of responsible antibiotic use
  • How to encourage good practice through positive behaviour change and supportive reminders
  • How to observe practice, provide constructive feedback, and contribute to continuous quality improvement

The training is practical, supportive, and people-focused. It acknowledges the realities of busy and demanding care environments and provides participants with simple, effective tools to identify risks early, support colleagues, and help protect residents, staff, and visitors.

By the end of the session, participants will feel more confident in their role and better equipped to promote and sustain a safe, infection-aware culture within their workplace.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Priority will initially be given to commissioned homes and those identified as requiring additional IPC support based on poor CQC rating, previous audit findings, or outbreak data.
  • The training is open to care homes within Kent (excluding Medway).
  • Attendees should be staff members nominated by their home managers who demonstrate interest and commitment to IPC leadership.
  • Places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis and are confirmed upon completion of registration.

Cancellation Policy

Registered participants are expected to attend. If a participant is unable to attend, they should arrange for another delegate from the same care home (one delegate per care home) to attend in their place.

Any cancellation should be made at least 48 hours prior to the session.
