About this Event
Choking is a serious and life-threatening medical emergency. It can happen to anyone at any age, however, young children are most at risk of choking.
2 – 4 babies choke to death each year in England and Wales. It is in fact the third most common cause of death for babies.
Recognition of choking & understanding how it differs to the signs of gagging is key to effectively helping in a serious choking emergency.
According to a survey by St John Ambulance, 40% of parents have witnessed their own baby choke, yet over 80% of these parents had no idea what to do in such a situation. This is an alarming statistic, especially when you consider that an average of 34 children are treated in hospital for choking on food every day.
At Human Kind we are offering in conjunction with Safe Hands First aid a baby (newborn to 12 months) choking first aid information session.
Every second counts in a choking emergency, knowing the correct procedure really can save lives.
