On May 23, join HCF for an engaging and specially designed workshop exploring traditional and contemporary indigo dyeing techniques inspired by the current exhibition Indigo: Variations in Blue. Curator Tushara Bindu Gude will be joined by artists Arianne King Comer, Precious Jennings, and Monique de la Tour for an in-depth exploration of indigo. Participants will begin the program with a brief tour of the installation led by the artists and curator within the c.1820 AIken-Rhett House Museum. Following the casual tour of the exhibition, the artists will demonstrate wax resist dye, string resist dye, and arashi pole-wrap indigo dyeing techniques, guiding attendees in creating their own unique textiles. Throughout the session, Arianne King Comer, Precious Jennings, and Monique de la Tour will share insights into their artistic processes, as well as discuss the history, cultivation, and cultural significance of the dye in a conversation led by Tushara Bindu Gude. Light refreshments are included. $55 per person, all supplies included. Program designed for ages 17+.
