Join us on Nov. 6, 2025, in honour of Indigenous Veterans Day - a meaningful occasion to reflect on and recognize the vital contributions of Indigenous Peoples to Canada's military history. We are honoured to welcome Indigenous Veteran William (Bill) Shead as our featured guest. This event offers a space for thoughtful dialogue and deeper understanding of the sacrifices made by Indigenous Veterans. The speaker at our Indigenous Veterans Day event will explore the important contributions that Indigenous Veterans have played in events that have led to the Indigenous renaissance, and today’s emerging Indigenization. As an Indigenous Veteran he has played important and crucial roles in many of those events and initiatives.Bill Shead is a Cree member of the Peguis First Nation. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 35 years – first with the Regular Force then with the Reserve Force. In civilian life he served as Mayor of Selkirk, Prairie Regional Director of Veterans Affairs Canada, and CEO of the Aboriginal Centre of Winnipeg (now Neeginan Centre). Bill is a volunteer for the Memory Project, filling requests for speakers at services and events commemorating Remembrance Day, Indigenous Veterans Day, Batlle of the Atlantic Sunday, and other milestone events for the Canadian Forces. He Secretary-Treasurer of the Sergeant Tommy Prince, MM, SS Memorial Corp. and governor of the Manitoba División of the Canadian Corp of Commissionaires.
