LACA houses a pottery studio complete with table space, community glazes, and project storage areas. Potters are required to bring their own tools and clean up the space after use. Pottery may be fired on-site for 4ยข/cubic inch. Community members interested in using the space must be LACA members and must complete the 'Independent Potter' course provided by Mary Case or demonstrate equivalent knowledge. The 'Independent Potter' course with Mary Case aims to provide the necessary knowledge and resources to be a successful potter in the LACA Pottery Studio. 'Independent Potter' will teach the very basics of project creation to ensure successful kiln firings, the tools available in the studio, glazing guidelines, how to use underglazes successfully, glazing techniques, and kiln firing information.
This 6-part workshop will be held on six consecutive Mondays and Thursdays starting June 10 (Jun. 13, 17, 20, 24, 27) from 6 - 8 p.m. Registration is $180 for LACA members and includes reference materials.
Mary Case is a local artist, instructor, and gallery owner in Ludington. She has lived in Ludington for five years and teaches multimedia classes at her studio and at LACA. Classes are primarily pottery and acrylic painting.
