No matter what our role is, most of us probably have to write as part of our job - emails, documentation, blog posts, feature specs - but are we being intentionally inclusive when we do so?

In this presentation, we'll learn from professional writer Olivia Barrow about how to create content that fosters respect and belonging.

All genders are welcome!

PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION

"Inclusive writing goes beyond avoiding offensive terms—it’s about intentionally choosing language that fosters respect and belonging. When people feel a sense of belonging, they’re more likely to engage, return, and trust your organization. Inclusive language isn’t just the right thing to do; it’s also good for business and helps prevent unintentional harm.

In this 30-minute talk, I’ll share real examples of language that subtly undermines organizational values or unintentionally excludes, along with simple, effective revisions that build trust and connection."

Key Takeaways

Learn how to move beyond performative inclusion that only removes “bad” words
Understand how word choice shapes inclusion, belonging, and audience perception
* Gain a practical framework for writing that reflects your values, aligns with your offerings, and helps your audience feel respected and welcome
