About this Event
We are inviting third sector organisations and community groups across Cardiff to join the inaugural Dementia Stakeholder Reference Group, alongside a forum to develop a collective third sector response to the Welsh Government’s draft Dementia Strategy for Wales 2026–2036.
Why a Dementia Stakeholder Reference Group?
During 2025, we supported seven organisations through our “Community Matters”: Living and Coping with Dementia programme. These organisations delivered impactful work in communities, developed innovative approaches, and reached people who might not otherwise access support.
Building on this success, we are committed to sustaining and strengthening partnerships across the third sector. We recognise the depth of expertise within Cardiff’s voluntary and community organisations and the vital role you play in supporting people with dementia. This reference group is intended to create a meaningful space where your expertise and the voices of people with lived experience can directly inform how dementia services are shaped, commissioned, and delivered.
What the Inaugural Session Will Cover
1. Establishing the Dementia Stakeholder Reference Group
We will work together to define how the group should operate and what it should prioritise. We are particularly keen to hear your views on:
- Structure and meeting frequency that would be most useful for your organisation.
- Key priorities you have identified through frontline work.
- Support you need from C3SC, including training, funding guidance, peer learning opportunities, or other resources.
- New projects or volunteering opportunities that C3SC should consider developing.
2. Responding to the Welsh Government's Draft Dementia Strategy
The Welsh Government has launched a consultation on a new Dementia Strategy for Wales 2026–2036. This presents a significant opportunity for the third sector to influence national policy. During the session, we will:
- Review the draft strategy in the context of local community experience.
- Identify strengths, gaps, and areas for improvement.
- Consider how effectively the strategy reflects lived experience, service delivery realities, and long-term vision.
- Develop a coordinated third sector response to the consultation.
Why Participate?
Joining the reference group gives you the opportunity to:
- Influence the future design and commissioning of dementia services in Cardiff, ensuring people with lived experience remain at the heart of service design and delivery.
- Access peer learning and collaboration opportunities with other organisations supporting people with dementia.
- Amplify your collective voice to influence statutory decision-making.
We believe this group can make a real difference - both in shaping a strong response to the Welsh Government consultation and in building long-term influence over how dementia support develops in Cardiff.
