Enes was born to play basketball. But when he realized his voice could be a force for change, he chose to risk it all. From the descent of his native country into authoritarianism under Erdogan to the NBA’s tolerance of China’s persecution of the Uyghurs, he has spent his professional life calling out injustice where he sees it, even when it means consequences for his family and his career. This is the story of how Enes Kanter, a boy with a dream in Turkey, became Enes Freedom, an American citizen, a Nobel Peace Prize nominee, and a fierce advocate for human rights—and the price he paid for speaking out. About Enes Kanter Freedom:
Enes is an activist, NBA player, and Nobel Peace Prize nominee who sacrificed his career to speak out against human rights violations in China. He was raised in Turkey, whose president he has also criticized for authoritarian behavior. Stripped of his Turkish citizenship, he became an American citizen and changed his name to Freedom.
