Join us for a rare opportunity to get into the mind of a Pulitzer Prize winner and one of our greatest living writers as she discusses her latest book, a close interrogation & interpretation of the book of Genesis.
Scholars and academics throughout the ages have grappled with the first book of the Bible; with varying factional interests, borrowings from other ancient literature, and an overall lack of consistency, interpretations range from literal to metaphorical and everything in between. But what about Genesis as a great work of literature?
Its rich articulation and exploration of themes resonate throughout the whole of Scripture. So what, then, should we make of it? Reading Genesis is a powerful consideration of the profound meanings and promise of God’s enduring covenant with humanity.
Modern day philosophers won’t want to miss this evening of thought-provoking discussion with one of the brightest inquiring minds of our age.
Marilynne Robinson is the recipient of a 2012 National Humanities Medal and was one of TIME magazine’s list of 100 most influential people. She is the author of Gilead, winner of the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction as well as Home, Lila, and Jack. Her first novel, Housekeeping, won the Hemingway Foundation/PEN Award. Her nonfiction includes Mother Country, which was nominated for a National Book Award, and What are We Doing Here? among others.
