In this session, Stephanie will help parents understand how infants and toddlers begin to explore and learn from books. She will discuss myths and expectations at different stages, including that a child needs to SIT and LISTEN in order to learn (spoiler alert: not true)! Stephanie will use her My First Learn-to-Talk Book series to share speech-language pathologists’ most effective strategies for choosing and using books to teach children the building blocks of communication. She will help parents know exactly what to do when it feels like reading time is just not working. Parents will leave with new ideas (and less stress!) to help foster joyful experiences with books for their infants and toddlers. No childcare? Your infants and toddlers are welcome at this event! We will have some books and toys available for you to bring to your seat, moving around is welcome, keeping those hungry little ones fed however you choose is welcome and encouraged. There is a children's restroom in close proximity to the event space. Please include your child(ren) in your registration, if they are coming along.

This program is part of GROWING KPL KIDS: TERRIFIC TALKERS!
Join us for an exciting program series offering dynamic opportunities for babies, toddlers, and caregivers to learn, inspired by the Learn-to-Talk book series by speech pathologist, Stephanie Cohen. These programs encourage the building blocks of speech, emotional connection, and early learning from infancy by equipping caregivers with the tools to help new speakers grow. Participants will receive a copy of Stephanie Cohen’s board book, My First Learn-to-talk Book, while supplies last.
