Financial technology (FinTech) is groundbreaking and rapidly changing area in the field of Investment Management. This course provides an introduction to FinTech such as blockchain, cryptocurrencies (e.g., Bitcoin and Ethereum), alternative lending, machine learning, and robo-advising. Participants are anticipated to develop a broad understanding of the recent FinTech development and its impact in the financial industries. The participants will also have hands-on and problem solving experiences that can be useful in FinTech applications and innovation. Topics may include but are not limited to: blockchain and cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin, Ethereum, Altcoins, smart contracts, decentralized applications, markets for smart contracts, applications of blockchain technologies in various finance areas, alternative and P2P lending and crowd-funding, machine learning and its uses in FinTech such as robo-advising.This fintech course aims at developing the mindset needed to create a culture that supports innovation. The participants will understand how FinTech innovations - such as those based on distributed ledger technology - are transforming the financial services industry. This course will upskill the students in terms of creating value with FinTech innovations in large financial organizations, for example through the application of machine learning. The participants will be able to apply design thinking to the financial services industry and get spaces to apply their knowledge in practice using their own FinTech business case.
