Data Analytics for Finance is the connection of statistical techniques and finance. It delivers a set of practical tools to analyze historical financial data, model underlying economic mechanisms, and predict future price trends. This course covers both cross-sectional and time-series data. Multivariate regression analysis is taught to study the cross-sectional differences in stock returns of individual firms and associated portfolio models. Uses of these techniques to evaluate the performance of new trading strategies and hedge fund managers are also discussed. In addition, time-series models are introduced to model and forecast both time-varying aggregate stock returns and volatility. The course prepares the participants to conduct empirical research in an academic or business setting.The course primarily targets on learning why, when, and how to apply financial analytics in real-world situations. Through this course the students will explore techniques to analyze time series data and how to evaluate the risk-reward trade off expounded in modern portfolio theory. Finally, this course will facilitate to learn algorithmic trading.
Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to:
