Filmmaker and alternative media artist, activist and advocate Simin Farkhondeh will be honored with a public memorial on Saturday May 17, at 11am at The People’s Forum. In conjunction with the memorial and recognizing Simin’s legacy of teaching at SVA (2010-2023), SVA MFA Photo/Video will host a program of full works that Simin directed and contributed to. In addition to her experimental film “who gives kisses freely from her lips” (2009, 41:00), and her documentary “Caught Between Two Worlds” (2014, 52:00) co-directed with Persheng Vaziri and Bahman Kiarostami, the program will include episodes from projects made by activist collectives that Simin was a part of including Paper Tiger TV, Gulf Crisis TV Project and LaborX.
