About this Event

Directed by Rhiann Jeffrey

On a Saturday morning in March 1980, 10 year old Conor Flynn walked to his local corner shop in West Belfast to buy football cards. He never came back. 6 months later, 11 year old Liam O’Donnell was convicted of his M**der.

It is now January 1990 and Conor’s brother Gerry, 16, is trying to construct a normal life for himself during the last gasps of The Troubles - but the events of one day threaten to unravel whatever semblance of normality he has. Conor’s memorial garden is destroyed, his killer released from Pr*son, and a charismatic stranger, Ryan Maguire, infiltrates Gerry’s tight-knit community, seemingly determined to get close to him.

As Gerry and Ryan’s relationship deepens, Gerry must contend with his Mother's frustrating stoicism, his Gran’s deteriorating health, and a disturbing question: is Ryan the solution to all his problems or the reason they exist in the first place?

Written during the Soho Theatre's Writer's Lab, this is the first public rehearsed reading of In Memoriam.
