About this Event
Dr. D. Zisl Slepovitch joins us on April 16th to explore the vibrant and complex world of Jewish macaronic songs. This performance and talk will dive into the multilingual traditions of Eastern European Jews and their Slavic and Baltic neighbors. You will hear how Yiddish intertwined with local tongues to create a unique musical shorthand for life in the Old World. Zisl will also trace these melodies through the secondary diasporas of North and South America. It is a rare chance to see how culture survives and transforms through travel and time.
Kvartira is a place where we celebrate these intricate cultural intersections. We value broad views, openness, and tolerance. We honestly do not promise you a silent academic evening. We do guarantee a night full of life, history, and excellent books surrounding us.
Bring your favorite drink and settle in for a conversation that bridges continents and centuries.
We look forward to filling our space with movement and discovery alongside you.
