Renowned artist Larry Bell and acclaimed writer Randy Kennedy will be in conversation to reflect on the exhibition "Larry Bell: Improvisations" and Bell’s ongoing exploration of light, space, and surface. ---
Larry Bell is a leading figure in postwar abstract art, known for his innovative use of light and surface through vaporized metal films. Over a career spanning more than five decades, Bell has created iconic works, ranging from glass box constructions and large glass panel sculptures to collages and towering bronze sculptures
Bell’s work is held in major public and private collections worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), Whitney Museum of American Art, Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles), and Musée d'Art Contemporain (Lyon). He has received numerous honors, including the New Mexico Governor's Award for Excellence in the Arts (1990), and continues to exhibit internationally.
Randy Kennedy is a writer, editor and curator. He was on the staff of the New York Times for twenty-five years, more than half of that time writing about the art world. His first novel, "Presidio," was published by Simon & Schuster in 2018. Since 2017 he has served as director of special projects for the gallery Hauser & Wirth and editor in chief of the gallery's magazine, "Ursula." He is the author, with artist Will Boone, of a new play, "Red Gap," published in 2025 by Karma Books.
